Who Owns You? GodArchy Podcast #2

Posted in : GodArchy Podcast, Theology and Political Philosophy on by : Michael Maharrey

Who owns you?

How you answer this questions has important ramifications and should inform the way you interact with other people.

In the next two episodes, I am going to cover two foundational ideas that underlie the GodArchy worldview — self-ownership and the non-aggression principle.

In this episode, I tackle self-ownership. After establishing that we own ourselves, I delve into the political ramifications with the help of John Locke. In a nutshell, nobody has the right to rule over us without our consent.

Locke based his conception of political society on a theological premise. The founders based the American constitutional system on a Lockean conception of government by consent. But this leaves us a step short of where the reality of self-ownership should take us, as I explain at the end of the episode.
