This is why we’ve become the Safe Space culture. We need a safe space to handle all the cognitive dissonance the cross triggers in our hearts when we see victims through its light but refuse to renounce violence.

Why do Americans want a king? The American colonists fought a long, bloody war to free themselves from the tyranny of a king, but in the ensuing 240 years, America has slowly but surely reestablished a monarchy – if not in name, at least in form.
Jesus came to usher in a different kind of kingdom. From the beginning, Christ flipped Jewish messianic conceptions on their head. Instead of preaching power, he preached meekness and submission. Instead calling for vengeance against their oppressors, Jesus told the people to love their enemies. Instead of fighting back, Jesus said, “Turn the other cheek.”
